Relocating a 600 V 400 A main entrance after water infiltration

A Hydro-Québec shutdown to relocate the 600 V 400 A main entrance of a school service centre exposed to water infiltration.

The situation

Water was infiltrating the room that housed the main electrical entrance of a building of the Centre de services scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île, in Montreal. Leaving 600 V equipment exposed to water was not an option: the entrance had to be relocated.

A planned shutdown with Hydro-Québec

Relocating a 600 V 400 A main entrance requires cutting the building’s power. We coordinated the shutdown with Hydro-Québec and prepared the new location, the conduit and the disconnects in advance so the work could be completed within the planned window.

The work

Our team moved the main entrance, ran new conduit and reinstalled the disconnects in a dry location. Power was restored once the new installation was complete and safe.

Why it matters

Water and electricity are a dangerous combination, especially at 600 V. If you see moisture near your electrical room, call an electrician before it becomes an emergency.
